AMD's upcoming wave of K10 quads will see the release of the Phenom 9550, 9650, 9750 and 9850 but apparently AMD is also set to update its Black Edition line-up. The Phenom 9850 Black Edition will be clocked at 2.5 Ghz and basically be identical to the 'regular' 9850, with the only difference being the unlocked multiplier.

Already appearing in stores, the Phenom 9850 Black Edition is priced at just under $300. Unfortunately, the 125W TDP of the CPU doesn't seem too overclocking-friendly but with the right cooling it might even reach the magical 3GHz mark. Though we're not betting on it

I wonder why AMD still cannot break the 3GHz barrier, sure it was a bug in the 3rd core in previous revision which most users couldnt even run their systems even at stock clocks(they had do downclock the 3rd core),but even after the new revision ... :S:S:S

thats cuz of the large TDP of 125 watts, its too much heat so they cant go 3GHz, they will need the 45nm die shrink very soon, and they will release these 45nm parts third quarter this year i guess if all went well, AMD is in big financial trouble these days, i heard they gonne drop 10% of the staff pretty soon, maybe next week, i do want them to kick some intel butt..

I dont think TDP is a much issue here, see QX6850 which is a 65nm counterpart has a TDP of 130W but people has easily managed to take it up to 4.xxGHz :D
BTW amd is gonna drop their staff by 5% as i heard :D

hehe thats with astounding cooling buddy, heat is the main prob with freq anyway its 10% as i heard here
