An aerial dance for Vista

To kick off the Tuesday launch of its new Windows Vista operating system and Office 2007 application suite, Microsoft took over the Terminal Building in New York City's West Chelsea neighborhood for a rather unusual celebration: aerial dancers hanging off the building and forming the logos for Vista and Office 2007.

With a "Vista-inspired" soundtrack in the background (whatever that means), the aerial performance begins.

At New York's John F. Kennedy airport, ads for Windows Vista were prominently on display.

The first of the 16 aerial dancers starts to climb up the side of the Terminal Building.

As a reminder that Vista isn't the only new product being launched by Microsoft, an Office 2007 logo was raised by the dancers as well.

Despite subzero temperatures and a wind chill that turned extremities into icicles, a crowd of press, Microsoft enthusiasts and Vista beta testers from around the world showed up to watch the spectacle.

The aerial dancers, from the New York City-based Grounded Aerial Dance Theater, climb up the side of the building to prepare for the performance.
