I don’t know whether u r already aware of this. This is the in4mation what I got from 4 people. 1 a journalist another who was living in the camp premises [AF quarters] n another2 who lived nearby. So this is not to let down our forces or to support the LTTE. This is just to let no bout the actual story.
How they entered the camp
The carders have cum walking from a long distance dressed in army uni4ms. On the way they have shot down number of dogs(11) using snipers [to avoid the disturbance of their barking]. Then they have entered the camp by cutting the fence. Their z a area of about 8 ft where land mines are buried n the carders have successfully disabled the mines on their way…
There are 4-5 points surrounding the camp with army /AF persons in it are having a close observation on the area [sorry to say that they haven’t seen the carders entering]. Then they have used the snipers to shoot down the men at the point and entered the points.
Nature of the attack
At the same time they have taken some of our weapons at started firing. Some AF ppl have rushed to the points to support them but unfortunately they were the victims of the carders. Then SLAF have broke fire using shell and RPG which shocked the whole area.
They also have entered n killed the ppl in the radar and disabled the aircraft firing system.
Then came the two light aircrafts and bombed the runaway. Our ppl were unable to figure out the planes due to the bad weather [it was cloudy @ that time].
Any way their main target of blowing off the armory was successfully avoided with the support of the Army n the STF. If the armory was blown off …..I wouldn’t be here to post this n whole of the A’pura town wud have been in a disaster…
The Actual Damage caused
Any way the actual damage was for 21 aircrafts [17 fully destroyed n the rest with gun shots on the body]
13 people of the forces
The Bell 212 crash landed due to misfiring of SLAF
The buildings in the camp are severely damaged including the runaway [the hanger is completely destroyed]
One of the bombs landed on an adjoining cattle shed had killed at least 25 cattle.
Bottom line - we have to admiited that the attack is 80% success for the LTTE. [rest of the 20% 4 not blowing off the armory]
