Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain and former Chairman of the Interim body of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Arjuna Ranatunge yesterday filled a Fundamental Rights application in the Supreme Court challenging Sport Minister Gamini Lokuge for his removal from the interim Committee of SLC.
Mr. Ranatunge in his application cited Minister Lokuge, Sports Ministry Secretary S. Liyanagamage and three others as respondents and demanded Rs. 15,000,000 million as compensation.
The petitioner claimed that he was appointed as the Chairman of the Interim Committee of SLC on January 1, 2008 and was removed on December 23, 2008 and during this period Sports Minister Lokuge had allegedly interfered with the matters in SLC.
Due to his sudden removal from the SLC chairmanship he said massive damage has been caused to his reputation and he asked Court to rule as null and void the Sports Minister’s decision to remove him from the said post.
