Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union’s (SLRFU) vice president Asanga Seneviratne has resigned from the local rugby union development committee chairman’s post.
It is reliably learnt that he has resigned from this post as he is not happy to hold the position because he did not receive any help from the union to follow their development programmes.
His letter was handed over at the Council Meeting which was held on Wednesday at Sri Lanka Rugby Union headquarters.
Martis re-appointed
The SLRFU council has reappointed St. Peter’s College coach Sanath Martis as Sri Lanka’s under 20 coach for the third time in preparation for the up coming junior Rugby Asiad to be held in Korea in December and Ananda Kasthuriarachchi has been reappointed as assistant coach.
Scholarship for Noor and Jaan
Two young rugby players - one from St. Peter’s number eight Eshan Noor and ex-Wesleyite and Kandy SC player Safeer Jaan will have the chance to wear the national jersey in the near future as they have been selected to play club rugby in England for five months.
Two South African coaches
The Council has also decided to bring down a foreign coach and a trainer from South Africa for three months to prepare the national and seven- a-side teams for the up coming international sevens and XV-a-side tournaments.
