WIth Sampath gateway they still get the signature. With the HSBC Gateway it's the PIN. Whatever the case is you cannot swipe the magnetic strip in SL. It gets declined unless you insert the card - as it uses the in-built chip security. This is known as the EMV standard. The data on an EMV chip can’t easily be read as when inserted into a reader, because each transaction uses a unique cryptogram. Hence it's more secure.All credit cards now also have what's called PayWave - a NFC chip is also embedded in the credit card. All you do is just tap the card - Tap & Go - if the transaction is less that $100.00 it automatically goes through - No PIN or signature. Any amount above this it prompts for the PIN. This feature is not supported in the SriLankan card readers.</blockquote>
