Apr 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Central Bank today warned the people in the Western Province to be more careful as some candidates in the upcoming provincial council election has printed leaflets similar to some currency notes.
According to the Central Bank several candidates in the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance have printed those leaflets similar to Rs.1000 and Rs.2000 currency notes.
Those leaflets are compromising some important marks in the legal currency notes, the Central Bank pointed out.
According to the country's law printing those election leaflets similar to the currency notes is a criminal offense and the printer could be punished if found guilty.
The candidates have printed those leaflets to seek more preferential votes in the election despite an order by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa asking the candidates to concentrate more on the party votes than the preferential votes.
