Baby rescued from toilet pit by Eheliyagoda B.G.Wimalawansa A husband and wife duo rescued an infant dumped in a toilet pit in Mahingoda, Eheliyagoda. R. A. Somalatha, a resident of Mahingoda told The Island that when she was readying to take her son to the Montessori, the next door neighbour told her that he heard the cries of a baby coming from the toilet pit. She had gone to the toilet with her husband W. G. Benedict, removed the wooden planks covering the pit and pulled the baby out. The baby’s body had been covered with excreta. Somalatha had washed and cleaned the baby well and handed the child over to the Eheliyagoda Hospital. The doctors said that the baby was in good health. Eheliyagoda Police are conducting further investigations.
