The 2-1 win in the One-Day International series against India has helped Bangladesh move up one place to No. 7 in the International Cricket Council’s ODI team rankings.
Bangladesh won the first two matches of the series by 79 runs and six wickets respectively, Mustafizur Rahman, the 19-year-old pacer, the big star with 11 wickets in the two games. India pulled off a consolation win in the series with a 77-run win the final game of the series on Wednesday (June 24) to end the series on a positive note.
Following the series win, Bangladesh reached 93 ratings points, only five behind England on the table. Bangladesh had begun the series on 88 points.
From Bangladesh’s point of view, the situation is a huge positive, as the top seven teams along with England – as on September 30 this year – qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy. West Indies, just behind Bangladesh, don’t have another ODI fixture till the deadline, while Pakistan, ranked No. 9, could make the cut when they take on Sri Lanka in a five-ODI series next month.
India, meanwhile, have dropped from 117 ratings points to 115 but retained second spot on the table. However, the series scoreline meant that only 28 points separated them from Pakistan.
Australia, the world champions, lead the field with 129 points.
