The Bodu Bala Sena has now started a social media campaign demanding the government to remove all “Muslim officers” from the Army Intelligence Service.
Dilan Jayasinghe, a stalwart of the Bodu Bala Sena has published a social media post saying “Muslim officers” of the Army Intelligence service pose a serious threat to national security. The social media post has been widely shared among supporters of the Bodu Bala Sena on Facebook.
The BBS says the Muslim officers of the intelligence service are “slowly” driving the country towards Jihad. It also asserts that the government is not aware of the gravity of this situation.
In its social media posts, the BBS also claims that some senior officers of the Military have been specially trained by “Muslim extremists” to engage in anti-Sinhala activities. However, the hardcore Sinhala-Buddhist organization has not supported their allegations with concrete evidence.
However, Muslim officers of the Army intelligence service were of great use to the Sri Lankan military during the final phase of Eelam war, being instrumental in dismantling the LTTE intelligence unit. Their knowledge of Tamil language was also of great value to the Sri Lankan Army in its secret operations against the LTTE, at one time the world’s largest terrorist outfit.
The Sri Lankan Army also produced several highly reputed servicemen such as Colonel Fazli Lafeer and Major Muthalif, who were Muslims by ethnicity.
Although Asian Mirror attempted to get a comment from Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya on allegations raised by the BBS, he was not available to comment. This came a day after the Army Media Spokesman claimed that there was a conspiracy to dismantle the “Intelligence service” of the Sri Lankan Army.
