Its impossible for another website to get a cookie of another website unless one web site sets a cookie on behalf of the other. Cookies have been around for long time and I do think they have a considerable amount of safety. Your friend might have added a keylogger of some sort. Otherwise he might have simulated this 'setting cookies in behalf of another' situation. Everything from Paypal, E-gold and even the dialog GSM website uses cookies.
