Birthday Romance 101...
When you look up "romance" in the dictionary, you won't find the words expensive, thoughtless, or boring. (Go ahead. Look it up.) What you will find are words like love, flattery, and adventure.
With that in mind, we've done our homework on creating romantic birthdays. And we invite you to choose an idea — any idea. Hey, choose several. It's all about the simple, thoughtful, inexpensive ways you can add romance to their special day. There will be homework...and you will enjoy it. (Heck, we wouldn't be surprised if you even earn some extra credit.)
Please note: The terms "birthday girl" and "birthday boy" are completely interchangeable in any given idea. Let's get this party started...
There's No More Fish in the Sea...
Fill a dish with those cute little goldfish crackers. There. You've just created a sea with a lot of fish in it. Now, cut a large fish-shaped note from orange-ish paper to match, and write on the note...Sure, there's a lot of fish in the sea. But you'll always be the ONLY one for me. Stick the note in the middle of all those little fish in the sea, and make sure it jumps out first when the birthday boy goes fishing.
Happy Trails...
Leave a trail of candy kisses (and/or hugs) from the door to where you'll be waiting when the birthday girl gets home from work on her birthday. When she finds you, she gets the real thing.
Love Is in the Air...
It's true in this case. And here's how to put it there. Balloons. That's right, take a deep breath, you're gonna need it. Whether you fill them with your own lung power or with helium is up to you. But first, fill 'em with love. Drop in a candy conversation heart, or a chocolate kiss. Better yet, write a bunch of corny little love notes, fold them, and pop (pun intended) them in. Then go to work at the filling station. The rule of thumb on this one is — the more balloons, the better. Fill up a room! Then give her a pin, and let her discover just what's in all that hot air of yours. Love, sweet love...
Fall for Him All Over Again...
Oh, you can go all out on this one. And with careful planning, you should be able to pull off several performances with no injuries. (And by the way, we're not responsible if you can't.) First, practice falling in private...gracefully of course. Then, stage several "falls" on his birthday, and when he gets that confused and/or concerned look, simply repeat some of the lines listed below. Oh...and have a nice trip.
I've just fallen for you all over again!
Wow, you just swept me right off my feet!
Honey, could you catch me? I'm falling for you!
You always make me go weak in the knees...
They're Playing Our Song...
This is easy...yet very effective. If you're like most couples, you have "a song." Simply sneak into his car and set the tape or cd player to that song so it will begin playing when he starts the car on his birthday. (Don't forget to test it!) Requires a minimum level of sneakiness...results in maximum impact.
From the Loooove Doctor...
Oh, the doctor's in the house all right...the loooove doctor. Just grab any old small bottle or jar. Fill it with folded notes telling her how much you love her, why you love her, how you'll show her you love her, etc. Don't forget to give her instructions...Take 1 daily with the one who loves you. (Or make up your own prescription — hey, you're the doctor.)
Love Is Blind...
Trust me. Trust me. Plan on repeating that a few times throughout this little gem. First, you strategize. Plan a special event. It could be a romantic evening at home, or a dream date out. When the time comes on his birthday, you blindfold him. And you lead him to each event you have planned. Maybe you've prepared a candlelit dinner. Or maybe you're retracing the steps of your very first date. Remove the blindfold — and voila! His birthday wishes come true...and to think you made it happen.
Clippin' Coupons...
She's always been the practical one...a faithful clipper of coupons. So this birthday, give her a little nudge toward the impetuous side of the coupon world...with your special coupons of love. Use your computer to make them, or do it the old-fashioned way. Simply make a booklet filled with coupons for the special things she loves. We've listed a few ideas here to get you started...
Breakfast in Bed
Unlimited Hugs & Kisses
Hire a Babysitter...We're Going on a Date!
It's a Date...
Use your computer to make him a calendar that goes from this year's birthday to next year's birthday. Scan in pictures of yourself or of the two of you. Note important dates for him to remember, like your first date...your anniversary, etc. Mark at least one date night every month. Make up holidays and highlight them — like these for starters...oh, the possibilities are endless...
"Susie Loves Mike" Day (insert your names, of course)
"Share A Smooch an Hour" Day
"Take a Romantic Walk" Day
And you might want to throw (or pop out of) a cake in there somewhere, too
