Bomb explosion at Wellampitiya; no damages to civilian life or property
A bomb exploded near a high power extension line, located few meters away from the Orugodawattha rail crossing along the Avissawella - Colombo main road (Low level) at 07.10a.m, according to the Wellampitiya Police officials.
No damages to life or property were caused from the explosion, as per reports.
The SL Army bomb disposal squads were immediately called to arrest the existing threat situation.
The Wellampitiya Police sources said that, commuters and other concerned parties are advised to use alternative routes to avoid street traffic during the initial hours.
Recently the vigilant Police officers at the Palugashandiya road block, at Nikaweratiya, apprehended a lorry transporting 1052 Kgs of C4 high explosives, averting a major tragedy on Friday the 01st of June.
On 24th May, LTTE terrorists detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), targeting a bus transporting army personnel in the first cross street in Colombo fort, killing two and injuring six others.
On 28th May, the terrorist outfit detonated a claymore mine killing eight people and injuring 36 others, at Rathmalana.
The LTTE has been fighting against SL government since 1983 for a separate mono ethnic homeland for the Tamils living in the Island. The main strategy of the outfit in pursuing its objectives has been killing innocent civilians in indiscriminate attacks without claiming responsibility for any of its deeds.
