I was out of EK. But I accidently saw this and I feel that it is my responsibility to clear the rumours since I’m a UN officer.
UNDP office in Colombo is NOT CLOSED. I repeat not closed. UN secretary General has call the head of UNDP to Newyork to discuss the prevailing matters.
All other agencies such as UNICEF and UNOPS are functioning normally and they will have NO effect.
I agree that CNN and BBC shitters are telling that UNDP is closed, but is it TOTALLY wrong.
This desperate situation will be back to normal soon, i personally don’t think wimal is getting to kill himself. I know the man.

All Lankan UN Offices remain open - Mohan
Mohan Samaranayake, National Information Officer of the UN office in Colombo, speaking to Adaderana today stated that the UN has not closed down any UN offices in Sri Lanka. He also said that the UN office in Colombo will be continuing working today.
However UN spokesman Farhan Haq said at a media conference yesterday said that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is closing the UNDP office in Sri Lankaand temporarily recalling its head official there because of the government’s handling of protests aimed at the world body.
Samaranayake further clarified that the UNDP Sri Lanka office will continue its operations here. However UNDP regional office located atIndependence Squarehas been relocated to Bangkokaccording to a decision made earlier in the year. Because of this decision to relocate, about half of the employees in the UNDP have been laid off earlier, he said.

Read carefully, it’s only the regional centre, not UNDP country office.
Regional centre set up for entire region and it was here. This was a small unit, which was functioning in UNDP. This was officially close in March and this was functioning as a symbolic unit.
Anyway, UN secretary general has no power to shut down country office. Its a serious matter and to be approved by the general assembly with a majority.
Further, all resettlement works in north east are handling by UN, basically UNICEF funding. I’m also participating in construction.

Of course there is a risk.
UN totally depending on donor funding from Europe.
In this situation, donors will not transfer funds to this.
It’s very bad for country you know..... We have to solve problems in decent ways.
Anyway, this is not an investigation committee. Just an adversary committee.

But if you take this is a overall manner, its not a good thing to be happen during this period. Why I say like this is, currently we need to take our country a certain level where to attract other countries to Invest and to tourists to visit here. So when this kind of things happening the perception will change back again and they will say that our country even though war is not there still no safe.
Who ever doing this should be check the risk factor before jump into emotional situations.
Its not right to have a committee to argue or punish any country in the world by a third party. But when we sign certain agreements that we support the UN bla bla..we can't simply oppose it and stand on our own. So we should be act as a diplomat and face for the situation in different way.
