Brazil metro collapse
12th January 2007
The walls of a huge hole being excavated for a new underground station in Brazil's city of Sao Paulo have collapsed, creating an enormous crater.
Eight people are reported missing after a minibus fell into the 30m (100ft) deep hole when the ground gave way.
Emergency services are at the scene, but fears of a further collapse are hampering rescue efforts.
Lorries being used on site also fell into the 60-metre (200ft) diameter hole.
Conflicting eyewitness reports cite an explosion before the landslide, others say the structure simply gave way - an inquiry is under way.
