Latest reports emerging from Bangkok revealed that the Nobel Laureate and Burma’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been released from her house arrest minutes ago.
Her latest period of house arrest began in 2003 following an attack on her and her supporters in Depayin by pro-regime militia.
The 65-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi was originally due to be released last year, but a case involving an American John Yettaw who swam across Inya Lake to her home, claiming he was on a mission to save her, prompted the latest 18-month detention.
Reports revealed that she came to the gate of her lakeside villa located in Rangoon and addressed the people amidst chorus chanting her name by the milling crowd in front of her house.
Details of her release are now emerging.
