Message: <blockquote data-quote="rapa" data-source="post: 493913" data-attributes="member: 212">Sri Lanka protests British parliament action(08th May 2007 - 17:15 S.L.T) Members of Sri Lankan parliament today expressed protest against the decision of British House of Commons to conduct a debate regarding the national question  of Sri Lanka and there by interfering in internal affairs. Proposing the Adjournment debate, JVP parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa demanded that British High-commissioner in Colombo must ask for apologies from Sri Lankan people. British colonial rulers were responsible for brutally slaughtering small children of Wellassa after the patriotic struggle of Uwa and they have no moral right to speak of any Sri Lankan problem, JVP parliamentarian further insisted. If the British rulers suppose Sri Lanka still a colony it is a mistake as Sri Lanka is an independent sovereign state. UNP parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake joining the debate said that if any foreign country to interfere in internal affairs it is to be condemned and the present Govt. is responsible for such situations. However Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama joined the debate saying that the ideas expressed in the foreign legislatures do not have any impact on Sri Lankan affairs. Minister Keheliya Rambukwella joined the debate and stated that British parliament’s decisions to appoint a committee on Sri Lankan affairs must be ignored. Having unable to solve Irish problem British government’s interference in Sri Lankan affairs, is a big farce- Patriotic National Movement(08th May 2007 - 17:15 S.L.T) Patriotic National Movement, says that it is ridiculous that the  British government, having unable to solve Irish problem, to interfere in Sri Lankan internal crisis. The issues like human rights and failed state were raised against Sri Lanka by the imperialist forces including US, UK and other western powers with the intention of interfering in internal affairs. The PNM holding a special media conference to protest against the incident in British House of Commons called it as another step of the same conspiracy. Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara the chairman of PNM commenting on the decisions of British legislature said that Sri Lanka is no more a colony of British Empire and if the British Govt. continues to act under such pre-assumption, PNM is ready to join with the people protesting in the streets. Other leaders of PNM including the secretary and parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa were present at the media conference Action would be taken against Britain  -    Sri Lanka Govt(08th May 2007 - 13:50S.L.T) Sri Lankan govt is expecting to act against the infavourable opinion on the national question of Sri Lanka expressed at the British parliament, foreign ministry sources revealed. Foreign Ministry is taking necessary steps with the help of diplomatic assistance, the sources further revealed. British House of Commons last week gathered to discuss on the developments of national question in Sri Lanka.
