'Buddha Rays' Spark Statue-Gazing in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (AFP) - Thousands of Sri Lankans gathered at temples after media reports that coloured images of the Buddha had begun emitting miraculous rays.

Large crowds gathered at temples and in front of statues along main roads in the majority Buddhist country to try to witness the phenomenon, but experts said it was only an optical illusion.

"I saw the 'rays' and knew it was because of an optical illusion," said electronics engineer R. Weerasekara. "But I didn't want to say it in front of so many believers and disappoint them."

Top Buddhist monk Pitiduwe Siridamma debunked the miracle rays theory floated in media reports and said the religion did not encourage such misconceptions.

"If you really want to see Buddha rays, learn the Dhamma (the teachings of the Buddha) and attain enlightenment," the monk said on Wednesday. "That is the only way. Now they are only causing traffic jams."

Yea, i agreed with you. if we can understand the load budda's sayings, we can see the budda's rays. not only the rays, you can see the load budda.

budda said, " yameku dharmaya dakeeda, ohu, ma dakka da wei "
( yo dhamman passathi, so, man passathi- pali saying of the budda)


But i have this kind of a idea.

We know that the body of the god's have shining rays. in these days, there is the Kandy perahara and the tooth relic is displayed. If the gods comes to see this, and if someone saw them, ( shining rays), someone can think like that.

The other idea is, there is thousands of people are looking at the statues of the buddha and they r thinking that they can see the rays, they r able to see them. so, because of the motel power, it can be happened.

This is only my idea, i don't know, weather it can be happened or not.

Some people makes some logics it must be a Chemical reaction. But just assume, if it is a chemical reaction it must happens alll da way. This waz happened in a one day , a same time..other thing is if it is a chemical reaction, it should happens in satues like Venues, and some of other satues also. Other thing i rekon is it should happens on today also. isnt it?
