K. Illangakoon to immediately launch an in-depth investigation into the assault on Buddhist monk Wataraka Vijitha Thero who was found bound and injured in Hirana, Panadura early this morning.  According to reliable inside sources, Wataraka Vijitha Thero was found early this morning (19) injured with his hands and feet bound on a road side in Hirana, Panadura coming under the Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha by Upul, a member of the Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha. He in turn immediately brought the matter to the attention of the Chairperson of Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha, Manoj Sanjaya who took the Thero to the Panadura Base Hospital in a Trishaw for admission. The monk, who had undergone minor injuries after the attack by an unidentified group, was taken in for immediate treatment.   President Mahinda Rajapaksa was immediately informed about the entire incident and the President in turn instantly made arrangements to transfer the Thero to the Colombo National Hospital besides instructing the IGP of Police to launch an immediate investigation looking into the incident.Wataraka Vijitha Thero has informed the doctor who treated him at the Panadura Base Hospital, that he was abducted by a group of Buddhist monks who assaulted him by beating him up and circumcising him by force.
