A huge 16 ½ foot crocodile weighing up to 1000 kilos was captured by residents of Kandegewaththa at Hekiththa, in Hendala.Nihal Jayasekera and his brother were among those who caught the crocodile with the help of a noose while it was swimming in the Kallualla canal .Wildlife Department range officer Amil Jayawardene said the crocodile was 16 and half feet long and weighed between 800 and 1000 kilos..Mr. Jayawardene said it would be transferred to the Udewallawe sanctuary during the course of the day.Residents said the animal was responsible for the disappearance of household pets and livestock in the area and had been spotted in moving the vicinity a few times.
