Dont expect it to come early. It will be out in 2011. The first processor to do 1 trillion floating-point operations per second, known as a teraflop. One single processor with 80 cores!!! Datz awesome!

This information is quite old...The information about this CPU was released in 2006 at the Intel Developer's Forum.

The most exciting news it not the power of the CPU, but how low power it consumes while operating at peak load (i.e. all 80 cores at 100%). At 3.16GHz, the CPU power consumption is said to be about 65W. (Current Core2Duo's consume this much power at full load, and with only 2 cores!!!) At this speed, it will be operating at 1Teraflops.

On a side note, the current GPUs from nVidia and ATI operate at about 0.5 teraflops, even with a clock speed of only 600-800MHz. Beat that, Intel :P
