I found this post from a another fourm wht do u think abt this...
"""I'm not deliberately trying to be controversial here icon_wink.gif And I'm leaving out our old school artists.

When it comes to western-style singing (as opposed to eastern), do you think our Sri Lankan singers are up to scratch? Unfortunately, I don't think they are, and I don't mean this as an insult, because it's not like I'm a singer icon_wink.gif I just wonder whether it's because Sri Lanka has no real tradition of western-style singing or because there just simply aren't enough people giving it a go. Or perhaps there isn't enough voice-training happening.

Besides that, it seems like that there are only a handful of people who have really great voices that make you sit up and take notice - the kind that does not need music to stand up on. Noticeable also is the lack of female artists - the exception being Ashanthi, who I would say is the best of the lot when it comes to the quality of singing. And I think a lot of people are going to hate me for this, but I don't think the singing that came out of the Sirasa Superstar contest was all that great either.

I also wonder about the influence of Indian aesthetics on Sri Lankan singers - where female singers have to have a high-pitched voice and soulful singers are virtually absent. An example of a song ruined by this (in my opinion) is Neela Nimnaye from Hiri Poda Vessa.

Do you think Sri Lankans are happy with mediocrity? Sometimes, it seems that way to me.

I'll stop my rambling here...""""

To some extent i agree with him. cuz sri lankan female singers most of the time over use their high pitch voice and that ruins THE whole song..
to me Indika upamali,Nelu adikari isn't in this catagory

When it comes to male vocalists..........people think that great voice has to be a deep voice...
To me, Kasun KAlhara,Amarasiri pireis are GREAT vocalists:yes:   sorry no chance for amaradeva(there is a some kind of a wrong in his voice....)but he is owns great vocal range (like chris cornell(audiosalve) voice is S*** but owns great vocal range):(

There are many Sri Lankans who can sing really well. They may not be popular but there are. Lankawe tharam sing karanna puluwan aya loke kohewath nathuwa athi. 1/4 of Sri Lankans can sing atleast fairly. ha ha ha ha

But popularity depends on how the media treats you? And that depends on how you treat the Media.
There are hundreds of beeeeautiful songs wrapped in cobwebs in media stations.
So sad....

Yeah Indika has a great voice.... But her voice doesn't have the uniquness. No one can recognise her by voice. So are Uresha and Nirosha. you can't recognise by voice... It's not unique. Even sashika's voice is good but she also doeesn't have the uniqueness for example, though deepika can't sing high, she has a unique voice. Karunaratne Divulgane, Sanath Nandasiri, Sunil Edirisinghe... Amarasiri peiris is great but he also doesn't have a unique voice. If there are many who can sing by the same voice it's not "so" great.
