AND IF THE CARDINAL RANJITH WAS THE NEXT POPE?

    PHOTO
ABOVE Malcolm Ranjith was created cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010
    [AFP / Vincenzo Pinto]
To hold the conclave to elect a successor to Pope Benedict XVI, speculation about the identity of the next pope will expand. Name appears in a few predictions: the Cardinal Albert Malcolm Ranjith. It has many qualities yet allowing him to figure prominently among the "papabili."

If elected at the end of the conclave, the Cardinal Albert Malcolm Ranjith figure would surprise for trucks that are hard-core "papabili." Whether Cardinals Angelo Scola (Milan ), Christoph Schönborn (Vienna) and several other lesser known figures public, but influential within the College of Cardinals.

However, if you look closely, Cardinal Albert Malcolm Ranjith has almost all cards that allow him to claim the succession of Pope Benedict XVI .

    He is young

Aged 65, he is able to déploer high energy at the head of the church for several years. A criterion that could be taken into account insofar as, by resigning, Benedict XVI shows how force is essential for the exercise of papal support.

This is a close Benedict XVI

Albert Malcolm Ranjith is one of 24 cardinals were created by Pope Benedict XVI on 20 November 2010. If it is to obey nominations for influence in the Vatican, they also show - for the recipients - they enjoy the confidence pope. For those who succeed the Pope is an asset: Cardinal Ranjith has it.

He knows the workings of the Vatican

Symbolically, the Cardinal Ranjith was ordained a priest by Pope Paul VI in person. That was in 1975. He was then 28 years old. He joined the Roman Curia in 2001 where he has worked for the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (2001-2004) and the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (2005-2009).

He is a man of tradition

When Benedict XVI recalled to Rome in 2005, Cardinal Ranjith has worked in the implementation of the motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum" liberalizing the celebration of Mass in the extraordinary rite of the Roman liturgy. It accesses the chair of Peter, he should continue the projects undertaken by Benedict XVI in liturgical matters.

He comes from a country outside the European

He embodies the tradition in many ways, Albert Malcolm Ranjith also symbolize an obvious rupture. Came one of the poorest countries in the world, Sri Lanka (currently Archbishop of Colombo), his election materialize transferring forces of Catholicism a Christianized West to the South where the Christian faith knows a strong momentum. "The love of the liturgy and the love of the poor are the compass that has guided my life as a priest" has he said one day.

It is popular and close to the ground

This is the strength of the Cardinal Ranjith. He knows perfectly hushed corridors of the Vatican, he also rubbed, especially when he was a young priest, the most glaring contemporary issues - development, literacy - which earned him a real popularity. Apostolic Nuncio ("ambassador" of the Vatican) in Indonesia and East Timor, he was tirelessly for victims of the tsunami of December 2004.

It is open to the world

The asset is not small when the load Pontifical now requires many trips in all latitudes, Cardinal Ranjith speaks ten languages: Sinhala, Tamil, English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Hebrew, Greek and Latin. During his ministry, he showed his diplomatic skills, particularly in the defense of persecuted Christian minorities. Proponent of interfaith dialogue, he actually implemented in Sri Lanka with Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims.

Many trump cards, so that could lead Cardinal Albert Malcolm Ranjith at the highest levels of the Church . The history of papal elections, however, reveals that the predictions are generally in vain. "Who among the papal conclave, Cardinal emerges" as the saying goes. To verify it still 2013?
