JEDDAH: An office of the Saudi Electricity Company, the state utility, in Jeddah was inundated with goats recently when a herder attempted to use the barter system to pay for the installation of a line to connect his home with the nearest line.
According to a report in Tuesday’s Al-Yaum newspaper, the villager inside the Jeddah municipality was told his farm was two meters outside of the grid and that he would need to pay SR248,000 in order to get his property hooked up. The man didn’t have the money, but he did have plenty of goats.
