The Lanka Education And Research Network is the NREN (National Research and Education Network) of Sri Lanka, which interconnects Educational and Research institutions across the country. It is an advanced network supporting IPv6 and multicast.
The first LEARN network interconnecting three sites with 64kbps links was established in 1994, with support from the University Grants Commission. Since then the LEARN network has grwon rapidly to its current state, interconnecting over 32 sites.
Our network currently includes optical fiber links ranging from 34 Mbps to 10Mbps to most campuses, and 2 Mbps links to universities at distant locations where optical fiber is not available. Smaller institutions/ campuses are connected with links ranging from 2 Mbps to 128kbps. We also have a direct connection to SchoolNet, the network connecting secondary schools in Sri Lanka.
We currently serve all of the UGC funded state universities, a number of public universities under other ministries and private universities, the University Grants Commission, the Ministry of Higher Education, and a number of national research institutions including the National Science Foundation (NSF).
