Central Bank predicts Sri Lanka’s economic growth rate in 2020 is around – 3.9% – Governor
Central Bank Governor W D Lakshaman forecasts Sri Lanka’s economic growth rate in 2020 is around negative 3.9%.
Presenting Sri Lanka’s monetary road map for 2021 today, the governor said the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic has resulted in Sri Lanka’s worst-ever economic growth rate since independence.
He said the 2nd quarter of 2020 was badly hit but the economy was shown some improvement in the 3rd quarter only to hit by the second wave of the pandemic in the 4th quarter.
The governor also said that Central Bank expects to maintain a single-digit interest rate throughout 2021.
