Certain Buddhist entities attempting to create a religious dispute in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka Is rumored that certain powerful and influential Buddhist entities have started to create an offensive environment in the Moratuwa area. Several Buddhist statues have to situated close to churches on road side despite the opposing country law. These statues were constructed in two days during the night and day after the Sambudda Jayanthiya. This however is reasonable given that this is a Buddhist country though it does raise questions as to why such laws were put in place in the first place. One such statue is located at the side of the Polkotuwa road. It is also rumored that the Roman Catholic College which is down the Polkotuwa road is also under pressure from these mysterious individuals to situate yet another Buddhist statue inside the Roman Catholic College premises. It’s to note that there is large percentage of Buddhist schools in the country which do not have a single Catholic statue or Catholic classes. As a collage where many Catholics in the Moratuwa area has sought refuge to educate children for decades this unfair behavior by these mysterious individuals is about to involve children and parents into religious dispute. Shouldn’t these people respect the name “Roman Catholic College” at least when thinking in doing this type of force? I call upon the Majority Intellectual Buddhists and Catholics in the country to unite and look into this issue and avoid our children from being witness to a grave religious dispute which none of us want. A “Roman Catholic College” is a Roman Catholic College after all. UPDATE : A Buddist statue has been situated in the Thuduwanmulla Road, Katubedda!! At early hours of 13 Aug 2011.
