H and FC had a successful season last year finishing third by winning eight matches out of 12 but the Policemen who ended up in 6th position with just four victories field a much stronger team this year having recruited several outstanding ruggerites from Kandy schools and should give the lads from Maitland Crescent a run for their money.

The forte of the Policemen will be their power-packed forwards which includes Sri Lanka Prop forwards Charaka Hewawasam and Nishantha Welagedera, hooker Chaminda Silva, lock forwards Pradeep Wilson and Nalin Archarige, flankers Gemunu Indrachapa and Ashan Dias and former Kingswood and Kandy SC player Malith Hettiarachchi.

The experienced former Sri Lanka player Harshana Wijeweera will once again occupy the pivotal fly half berth and is likely to pair off with young Malinda Bandara. Skipper Nilusha Fernando a hard runner and solid tackler will play in his pet position of centre with last year’s Kingswood and Sri Lanka Under 20 player Chula Susantha likely to fill the other centre berth.

Young Hasith Niranga, Ranjith Kumara, Priyantha Pradeep and Champika Thushara will be vying for the wingers positions with promising youngster Jeevan Amaradasa manning the last line of defence.

CH and FC will be led by former Sri Lanka Prop forward Jayantha Ranaweera and they boast of a formidable pack which is studded with national players.

Ranaweera will bind down in the front row along with last year’s Trinity and Sri Lanka Youth player Sathya Ranatunge with Sri Lanka ruggerite Achala Perera as the hooker.

Ex-Sri Lanka sevens player Dinesh Sanjeewa and former Navy and Sri Lanka player Manjula Ruwantilleke will be the lock forwards while the formidable third row will comprise of former Sri Lanka flanker Dilanka Wijesekera, Wasamba Senarath and strongly built No. 8 Sumedha Malewana (who represented Sri Lanka at the Singer Rugby Asiad).

Young Scrum half Tuan Shamrock will once again pair off with former Air Force and Havelocks fly half Sajith Bandara.

The other outstanding players in the back division are centres Matheesha de Silva and ex-Airman Rushika Fernando, Young Niranjan Wickremaratne and dashing winger Lakala Perera who is an automatic choice for the Sri Lanka team and veteran full back Dinuk de S. Wijeyaratne (who donned the Sri Lanka Jersey at the Singer Rugby Asiad.
