Undergrads-marshals clash at Colombo Campus
A clash between students and campus marshals at the University of Colombo this afternoon (Aug. 06th) left several injured, reports said.
The marshals had taken several students to their room and tried to question them on a claim by Hudson Samarasinghe in 'Rata Yana Atha' Programme of Isira Radio that two marshals had abused a female student.
Following the marshals attempted to video the students, enraged undergraduates had attacked them.
Several lecturers and marshals who tried to mediate were injured when students threw stones at them.
The situation was brought under control only after the police intervened.
When contacted, convener of the Inter University Students Council Udul Premaratne, he said students had come to know that marshals get drunk and bring prostitutes into the campus premises during nighttime.
