Launch


Shuttle Launched on 16th January 2003 - 1+6 = 7

Shuttle Crashed on 1st February 2003
16 days after it was launched - 1+6 = 7

The Mission Number Was - STS-107

It was the 107th shuttle mission

There ware 7 crew members.

Original Launch Schedule - 19th July 2002 - 19/07/2002 - 1+9+7+2+2 = 21 = 7*3

Launch was delayed 18 times - 8-1 = 7

Landing

First sighting of debris falling - Altitude of Columbia was 230,200 feet = 70 km - 2+3+0+2+0+0 = 7

Responce from the President at 14.00 EST - 14 = 7*2

Cause of the Disaster.

The loss of the Columbia was caused by damage sustained during launch when a piece of foam insulation the size of a small briefcase and known as the Left Bipod Foam Ramp broke off the main propellant tank under the aerodynamic forces of launch. The debris struck the leading edge of the left wing on the number 7 & 8 Rinforced Carbon-Carbon (RCC) tile, damaging the Shuttle's thermal protection system (TPS).
