i5 has 2 or 4 cores depending on the model and i7 has 4 but with hyperthreading it gives a performance of 8 cores.
i5 & i7 have turbo boost and hyperthreading
i5 & i7 = Core 2 Quad and Phenom II processors.

i3 only hyperthreading = lower end Core 2 Quad

By default core i5 does not have hyper threading , i5 has better than i3.I have used core i7 , i5 with 3 servers up , one IDE (intellij) and a virtual machine you cannot load the CPU unless you run video rendering or cpu hungry application.Under normal conditions you can barely hit 50 %

yes coz most i5 & i7 are older technology than new i3s although there're some i5s which use new technology of i3. have to buy the correct model.

only i5-750 with out HT,All other i5's have HT,Don't Say bullshits ,core i3 3.06 20% Faster than Core 2 duo 3.06,two core's works as quad cores,yum yum http://ark.intel.com/ Check it out
