Don't get it wrong. It doesn't consume a lot of power. TDP is related to heat, not power consumption (or wastage!).

They have a high TDP because that's the limit to which the "turbo" mode automatically overclocks the cores when applications that cannot take the full use of the 8-SMT capability of the CPU. TDP will only be a concern in entry level or Intel mobos. Other overclocking mobo's will not have a TDP limitation (or so they say).

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the maximum amount of power the cooling system in a computer is required to dissipate. For example, a laptop's cpu cooling system may be designed for a 20 W TDP, which means that it can dissipate (either via an active cooling method such as a fan, a passive cooling method via natural convection, via heat radiation all three modes of heat transfer) 20 watts of heat without exceeding the maximum temp. for the chip. The TDP is typically not the most power the chip could ever draw ,but rather the maximum power that it would draw when running real applications.
So it is power dissipation bro.It is wastage isn't it?

Well, TDP is something that I haven't really understood. I mean, why both companies give same TDP for even the lower end CPUs. The E7200 has 65W TDP. But in an article that actually measured the power consumption of it through a watt meter measured only ~22W at full load. That even fits the laptop's TDP!!!

Edit: This is the article

yeah the article says 7200 consumes 21w.But its TDP 65W. You know earlier days we used athlon cpus. Its TDP is something like 95w(can't remember the exact figure) But it ran finger burning hot.
I think E7200 is having a very low consumption .since it is only 80^ in die size.I have a problem here also .Then why intel says E7200,or even E4*** having a 65w tdp. It should have been better for them to say 22W tdp.and it is good for marketing perpose also.

That's my point too. OK, 22W is too low. Say 35W?

Yes the very low power consumption of the E7200 and such is due to the small cache size. Same is true for the Q9300 see?

    U blind or something??
It has less thermal paste, bloody old god damn cooler. At least some copper has been added.I'm assuming it has a hole in the middle.:P

But If u want you can add other cooler or you can water cool it! :frown: :frown:

    hey and another thing

so core i7 eke wenasa it has L3 8MB nisa da?:D
Nope. Because of IMC & QPI & also native Quad Core design. There is no more FSB. And it's not made by fixing two Dual-Core CPUs, which was the case with the Core 2 Quad CPUs.

But that's not the point. Why can't they just ship a good cooler with these VERY expensive CPUs? There are VERY good coolers in the market for around $20, and I don't see why Intel can't just ship a such a cooler. Intel is being just IGNORANT!!!

WTF happened cooler with copper fins here and there, that they promised???

Anyway, this is the same cooler (except the "leg" positioning maybe) that came with the E6300. It had copper too.

yep i got the same with my e7200..a bit of copper at the bottom..

If you can buy that CPU y can you get a water cooling system of the computer?

ah ha.. i have to chk on IMC & QPI from google ;):D

so if there is no FSBs how can ppl OC dis one?:D

I'm not asking them to ship a ThermalRight Ultra Extreme!!! I'm asking them to ship something that's worth shipping.
