Capture or kill, Lahore governor orders
Lahore Governor Salmaan Taseer on Tuesday told law enforcement agencies to either catch or kill the perpetrators of the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said the police had been instructed to complete preliminary investigations. He told journalists the government has gathered significant clues to the identity of the perpetrators, but will not reveal any names without solid proof. He also criticised the Indian home minister, who declared the incident a security lapse on the part of Pakistani law enforcement agencies. He said Pakistani police had reacted immediately and saved the lives of the Sri Lankan players by laying down their lives, noting the Indian commandos had taken seven hours to reach Mumbai, APP reported.
He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif should not politicise the incident, adding their statements were regrettable and condemnable. He said the former rulers were trying to exploit the situation instead of standing by the nation during this time of crisis.
Expressing sympathy with Sri Lankan players, the people of Sri Lanka and their cricket board on behalf of the government and people of Punjab, he said, “We are greatly shocked and grieved over the incident.” The governor also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the martyred police officers.
