Last few days:
Bora thei mila wedi wnne OPEC eken eka wedi karana hinda nemei!
US hinda....
As an e.g.:
IF world is a train US is the engine.. all of the boxes are connected to it
US Economy was in thir Blooming era and now it's reaching a resession!
So The value of US Doller is decreasing! so oil prices are getting high!

Not necessarily in that order bro.......................about the train & engine I agree.....

But Oil prices increase mainly due to..........

(1) Speculation
(2) Increasing demand from robust economies of China & India
(3) Mid East unrest...........Iraq......uncertainty about Iran.....Sudan, Nigeria
(4) Opec oligopoly
(5) Also few countries including US & Australia are preserving their oil deposits without exploring them fully is not helping the world crude oil prices

  • The biggest problem with SL is we are using too much oil for electricity generation. 60-75% of our oil is used for that!

Blame Thondaman (Ihala Kotmale), Arch Bishop of Puttlam (Norochcholai) and environmental activists of South (Hambantota) for not letting government to make Hydo-power abd coal-powered plants. Even Kukule project has been down graded from 132MW to 88 or some where round that.

If we can get 75% of our elecricity from renewable sources like Hydropower and bio-fuel, governmnet will be able to reduce it's taxes on oil (whatever party).

Then we have Methane hydrate the newest enerergy source, as it contains pure methane. It will cost 100 times more to dig it out, but will be 100 times cheaper once you get it out of ocan bed, and the amount is about 2-5 times as fossil fuel. And surprise, surprise, SL neiboring ocen has one of the richest deposits of Methane hydrate! No wonder why developed countries are trying so much to explore for oil!!

    Interesting !

    No pun intended.

What is the development in this sector regarding SL ? (Methayne Hydrate)

but one point I must point out to you; It's always not about cheap power !

Environmental pollution in the long run can be MORE costly to clean out. Especially since we are living in SRI LANKA, such clean up will never happen and most probably we would end up with toxic fumes and un-revisable damages.

I for one would always opt to pay a 10 bux more in my day to day life so ONE DAY my child can breath some fresh air.

Even in the world the development is poor. Why? 75% of Methane hydrate is in the seas of third world countries. So US and Japan wait until these countries beg to dig them out for them, so they can have a better deal. They are probably waiting until oil sky rocket further.

Methane is a much cleaner source than fossil fuels, because it s free of sulfur and phosphorus and nitric oxides.

    methane = CH4
means it has carbon so it produces carobon dioxide (CO2) and Carbon Monooxide (CO) during combustion, which contributes to global warming. So it has pretty much the same effect on global warming although the acidity in water would go down as there is o SO2 and NO2.
