[Released today all around Australia!]

The Lost Symbol, formerly known under the working title as The Solomon Key, is a novel by American writer Dan Brown. The Lost Symbol is the third book to involve the character of Harvard University symbologist Robert Langdon, after 2000's Angels & Demons and 2003's The Da Vinci Code.

The book's story takes place over a period of 12 hours in Washington, D.C., with a focus on Freemasonry. Langdon is summoned to Washington by his mentor, a Mason named Peter Solomon. When Solomon goes missing and a ghastly clue is left, Langdon is sent on a rapid chase through the concealed passages of the city. He joins forces with Solomon's daughter, Noetic scientist Dr. Katherine Solomon, while matching wits with a tattooed and brilliant villain who is in search of an ancient source of power.

A long-awaited book, "The Lost Symbol," isn't likely to raise hackles the way "The Da Vinci Code" did in 2003, but it is hair-raising and some Christians will take offense.

"The Second Coming is the coming of man - the moment when mankind finally builds the temple of his mind," a character proclaims at a critical moment.

Still, even if the plot relies heavily on the construct that all religions actually stand between man and God, that's been voiced many times before. And his reinterpretation of the Bible in "The Lost Symbol" is unlikely to cause anywhere near the outrage that met "The Da Vinci Code," in which Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon uncovers a marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene that the Catholic Church expunged from history.

As promised, "The Lost Symbol" is set in Washington, D.C., and uses Freemasonry as a springboard to intrigue. But even the Masons will have little to moan about. While Brown certainly uses their symbology and plays on the controversy surrounding the ancient order, the men in little white aprons come off looking good.

Except for one, that is. Standing in for the albino Silas of "The Code" as a grotesque is Mal'akh, whose muscled body is a tapestry of tattoos. You think you'd see him coming, but he's a demonic genius and certainly skilled in cosmetics. For his induction as a 33rd-degree Mason, the highest realm, he skillfully hides the evil his skin would reveal.

history is fact, and he's doing fiction. I dont know its for the money or not but thats not a good thing(for a writer) to do.:oo:

Not all americans are so high about their packet of bogus, Micheal Crichton
is better i suppose :P just because of "prey" when compared to "digital fortress"

History is fact only to a certain extent..
The people who record historic events manipulate certain incidents so that the reputation of the person/people in question is/are protected..
Ceaser did it, Ramses II did it and I am pretty sure even Sri Lankan kings did the same too..
This whole exercise is there to boost the ego of the person in charge at that particular period of time..
It's up to the masses to decide what to read and what not to read..but in my personal opinion Dan Brown is doing a pretty sound job with his works :)

I really liked Da Vincy code so I think I'd like this book too. It's all very logical and a good read. Thanks bro.:)

As for writers, I prefer Steinbeck and Hemingway though.

well that depends..as I said the readers should decide what's good for them and what's not..and from what I see you are not a very big fan of Dan Brown :P
correct in saying not a big fan. However I am a fan. I've read all 4 of his other books and my favorite is Angels and Demons (BTW, the movie of that was an abomination).
Looking forward to read this one as well.

why did you say DVC 2 ?? this story is not related to DVC at all.

Well... Today in the morning there was a huge bash around town mentioning about Da Vinci 2 or somthn. Later realised it was for this book.

Even the media reports it like that.

Some say it's sort of a follow up on DVC as well... Anyway have to read the book first before giving an intelligent opinion :D

Well actually I don't think Dan Brown bosast too much about them...
In fact the 'Digital Fortress' kept the momentum on top of a Japanese (Ensei Tankado) Nuclear victim. And the book simply says how stupid the Americans are by trying to ignore simple clues and going behind so called huge and spectacular bogus clues...

Well I personally like the Russian Authors... But the sad part is I can't read Russian... and the translations are sort of 'kill joys'...

Exactly. Even the religious scripture I reckon. People wrote only what they like and what they wanted to impose on the partially blind human from future...

people of those religious faiths have known that most of it is fabricated(nowadays even news is fabricated) i just think(personally) that theres no use in even proving those things actually happend people know it.
If this book dont have any connection with da vinci code then i should give it a try!
