Rising waters owing to torrential rains for the past six days on the trot is threatening to inundate a large section of Dambulla, a senior official with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said a short while ago.
The danger is emerging from the swollen banks of the Thammam Canal that is threatening to spill into other areas, DMC, Additional Director, Pradeep Koddippili said.
He said local officials from the Pradeshiya Sabha and volunteers were working round the clock in placing sand bags in the vulnerable areas, but should the wet weather continue the situation could become worrisome.
