you just wait, eating off from the govt plate !! The art of politics is choosing your battles carefully, the last thing the govt needs is to kick ICRC away, we would be all happy if you left the country with any money you have made , we need peace at least now not racisim

It is certainly true that some NGO officials in Sri Lanka want to create opportunities to prolong their luxary living in Sri Lanka by fabricating evidence to claim that their presence in the country is necessary for "humanitarian" reasons. This could be very well true of the ICRC chief in Colombo. But the government will have to act carefully in order not to create too many enemies at this juncture. However it is advisable for the Defence Minister to summon the ICRC Chief to his office and ask him how he obtained these figures. If he cannot provide reliable evidence to support his claim, he should be askeed to retract his claim.

Wimal, this is my advice to you. We appreciate the brave acts of our soldiers and crushing the terrorists. Still that’s only the first step to fix the rusted nuts and bolts of this country. There are innocent people trapped in the war and sacrificing their lives even at this moment. You enjoy a luxurious life in Colombo and I do in Sydney. If we don’t understand the sufferings of Tamil brothers and sisters undergoing now and show our empathy to them and support organisations such as ICRC for their great work they do in North, which you and I cant do…… we are inhuman. If we try to grab opportunities by trying to be heros for nothing, this victory will be a defeat in the future and we will be responsible for it. Place the future of your countrymen before your dream palace full of luxuries. Spare few words for these thousands of innocent people who are suffering. If you think you will lose your future opportunities by doing that, please don’t open your mouth.

Wimal, I am no supporter of your party and would never vote for you at an election but what you say on this matter is very correct . And there are many others like the head of ICRC who also appear to be supporting the LTTE. I wonder why?

there are many to be deported

Wow...what a solution - deporting everyone, murdering everyone because they express a view that is different from yours? Trying to deport the ICRC chief will do nothing to improve SL's reputation. It will only prove that there is something is fishy going on here. Therefore, Mr. Weerawansa please keep your childish remarks to yourself-without dragging SL from bad to worse...

Mr Wimal.. This is not the right time for your drama.. you people just issue statements to show people that you still exist.. do something proactively and effectively, rather than hopping from party to party.

Dear Laptop Vimal, please remember that Sri Lanka is a part of the world and the world is not a part of Sri Lanka. At the rate you want to deport others, Sri Lanka will be isolated. If the ICRC Chief is wrong request him to correct himself and issue a statement. All are human beings and prone to commit mistakes. Surely he will do it. Also remember Sri Lanka is not a super power. Your statements will boomerang on Sri Lanka from other quarters. -Ramzeel

An alternative may be to prosecute him for being a propagadist for the LTTE.

There's an easy way to stop ICRC chief from making bogus claims - allow independent reporters to go in and report the truth. Now is that so hard to understand?

May be the ICRC chief has much more credibility than him!

This nature of LTTE supporters must be kick off from our motherland. All these years & still these people are doing one thing that is make their voice in the support of LTTE

Only two matured comments I could see is from Suberb from Sydney & Ramzeel. Well said mates. Others just talking for fun without any feeling towards the country men.

If you think there is no humanitarian crisis, why don't you go there and tell us exactly what you encounter? Thousands of poor, innocent civilains are trapped in the midst of the fighting and you have the audacity (or stupidity) to make such statements. With fools like you in politics, no wonder our beloved Sri Lanka finds itself in the sad situation that it is facing today? 61 years of Independence, my foot. Try telling that to those children, women and men who now don't even have a hospital to go to in the war zone.

This is the answer for Rosebud's question: LTTE is paying their families for the hard work of them. LTTE is a rich group with lots of foriegn monies so that it is not a matter for them to fund those families. That is why they are (directly) working for LTTE. We must shout not only deportation but also enqiries from their organisations.

ICRC statements are misleading & far from accurate. But need of the hour is to get all & sundries support to defeat the LTTE terrorism. ICRC should be approached and confronted with correct facts & figures and certainly not with threats. Our heroes are doing an excellent job but still there is a little bit of unfinished business to complete. Once it is done successfully and when we all can celebrate together, these ICRC guys will change the tune and join to play the music to go with it. So be sensible & use energy wisely at this crucial hour

Just shooting off the mouth is typical of half-baked bufoons. Wonder what happened to the famous "plug- pulling". This sort of jokers are only good for entertainment of the gullible public. One can understand his brief is to make some noises on some silly matter in return for the luxuries he is enjoying under the aegis of the government without holding any official position except "going to kade" for all and sundry in the government, after right royally betraying his comrades in arms. Revolution, my foot.

Superb from Sydney, your comment is superb and highly appreciable. As Ramzeel says, Sri Lanka is part of the World and not the other way round. The innocent civilians who are being trapped by the ruthless LTTE are also our brothers and sisters. ICRC and a few International Organizations have been assisting them which neither the Government nor Wimal could do. Wimal is bellowing to satisfy the majority Sinhalese (definitely not me) for political advantage for he knows that the ICRC Chief has no voting rights in Sri Lanka. According to Wimals vision, Sri Lanka should be out of UN, Unesco, World Bank and all other World Bodies. Wimal's rubbish talks will only do more harm than any good locally and internationally. I think Wimal is going beyond his mandate.

It is so refreshing (for a change) to read all of these sensible comments from ordinary Sri Lankan colleagues in contrast to the loose canon who professes or hopes to be a leader of the country!

it seems that most of the people who commented on this column are having personal grudge over wimal.what he says is right. can't you all understand or why you people forget that mainly because of his mouth, mahinda won the last presidential election and due to his personal inervention, last two budgets got passed in the parliament.if that support was not there, how mahinda and forces fight against LTTE?
