Direct X 10 is only supported on windows vista mate..Microsoft has stated that they have no intention to release a new version of DX on windows XP..mostly because of the technical limitations of windows xp...but do remember on windows vista DX 9 games are much slower than they are on XP...actually direct x 10 doesnt look that much better than DX9c anyway...even ID software lead programmer (the company that made Doom3, Qauke4 etc) John carmac said that he have no intention of using DX10 for his next generation game "Rage" wich looks fantastic...anyway if u want direct x 10 u need Vista..that means much slower performace...by the way current generation of DX10 video cards are not capable of delivering statisfactory DX10 performance and that include ur Geforce8800 GTX (wich is a power hungry monster of a thing)...

this is a serious....
why dont you put some references..
so we can learn something too..

I already have a 8800GTS which is DX10 ready, Microsoft thinks it is perfectly fine to screw us from the rear side, when we buy a product that is designed for something that should be available to us. Bollocks.

    1. DX10 is only officially supported in Vista, true.

    2. I don't think it is due to a limitation of XP that MS are not going to bring DX10 to XP, rather to give the new OS a superiority in one most important aspect: Gaming. Sure, it is hard work to bring WDDM to XP, but you don't need WDDM for DX10 in Games. WDDM is just required to draw the desktop in hardware render mode than software render mode.

    3. Sure, the latest games on even DX9 looks as awesome as on DX10 and the performance penalty you are getting by running a game in DX10 compared to DX9 doesn't justify the graphics quality improvement in terms of shaders, lighting or effects as it is very insignificant.

    4. And, current DX10 cards suck donkey balls! We need R700 and G100 to get playable rates at max details/quality/resolution (1600x1200 or above)

Anusha..it is cause of limitations of the windows XP kernel that DX 10 wont work on XP...WDDM is something else...WDDM dont need DX 10 it can work on DX 9L(dx 9 compatibilty layer for vista)
you can read about it here if u r interested http://www.beyond3d.com/content/articles/55/

Microsoft will have to do a lot of work on windows XP to make it compatible with DX 10 and i dont think they will ever do it...and without microsofts help no one else can reverse engineer DX 10 work on xp..its just impossible to do.
