I don't live in Sri Lanka, but the few times I've visited, I've only seen pirated/illegal distribution of music (same with films), and coming to this website, I see even more illegal downloads. Of course, the latter is a world wide issue, but majority of countries DO sell the official product. Does Sri Lanka sell official music? If so, does anyone here buy them?

yes they do sell oriinal music as well as original movies....but the fact is sri lanka is a third world country and people can't afford to pay huge sums for a movie or a music album...( same with the softwares )

and infact when we have cheaper products why would we buy expensive ones since we are getting the same thing....

Because the unlawful mass production of copyrighted music concerns me. It's not fair for the artist, producers, advertisers (everyone who is involved with the music). They do not get their fair share of the money they deserve.

Yes, I am Sinhalese but live in Australia.

Yes, I understand that majority of people in SL can't afford to buy official product, but still, purchasing pirated cds is ILLEGAL same with downloading. It's unethical too. Even well off countries are the same (e.g. UK, Aus, US), but they don't have the excuse of not being rich enough, because many are.

So conclusively, I'd hope that people would buy the official product (even when more expensive) because it's simply the right thing to do.

U are exactly correct brother, but usually the Rules & Regulations in Sri Lanka have lot of loop holes and due to that people goes to illegal or pirate copies rather than the originals as they know that if caught there will be more chances to get free and also if fined at courts it will be a very small amount.

and also recently Govt. introduced a new act for Intellectual Properties, but no body knows what is it and what dose it do. Govt. thinks when law is Gazetted, that's it. and that the general public should know about it. but even to buy the Gazettes there is only one place for the whole Sri Lanka and it is closed most of the time due to lack of staff.

^ I'm actually a girl :p

Thanks for explaining more about the legality in SL. It's unfortunate, because it seems like an issue that cannot be controlled- especially when dealing with internet downloading.

We are putting all the music legally. I know there are tons of free music we distributing through this site. But we are publishing them with authorization from respective parties as promotional materials.

And we are not allowing sharing of illegal srilankan music albums through elakiri to our members too.
So elakiri is not another site who upload illegal music albums and put ads around it to earn money.
