LTTE terrorists continue to take heavy beating as the security forces effectively engaged in counter terror operations Northern Forward Defence Lines (FDLs), say the defence sources in Jaffna and Vavuniya. During last 24 hours the security forces have killed 27 LTTE cadres and wounded many others in clashes erupted in Jaffna, Vavuniya and Mannar fronts, the sources added. Two soldiers were also killed and another was injured in these incidents.

Jaffna

In the Northern theatre, Sri Lanka army soldiers this morning (November 20) marched into the LTTE defence line in Kilaly and destroyed two bunkers occupied by LTTE terrorists. According to the defence sources in Jaffna the soldiers have attacked three LTTE bunkers around 5.a.m, destroying two and inflicting heavy damages to the other. Ground troops have confirmed that five terrorists were killed in the incident. No casualties to own troops, sources added.

Meanwhile, soldiers deployed in the security forces' defence in Nagarkovil killed three more terrorists on Monday morning (November 19). According to the sources, the soldiers had opened fire at a group of LTTE cadres who had been stalking at the own defences around 7.a.m. The terrorists had fled leaving the three slain LTTE cadres in the no-mans-zone, the sources added.

At Muhamalai a soldier was killed when the terrorists had opened fire at the FDL around 9.30, last morning (November 19).

Vavuniya

In the Vavuniya front, troops ambushed a group of LTTE terrorists at Ilamaruthankulama around 2.p.m on Monday (November 19). Ground sources have confirmed that five LTTE cadres were killed in this incident. The terrorists had retaliated using mortars, the sources further added.

In the general area Vilathikulama, troops confronted with a group of LTTE cadres around 9.30 on the same day morning (November 19). Ground sources said five LTTE cadres killed and four others were injured in this incident. Radio monitoring of LTTE transmissions has revealed that three terrorists were killed in the same incident.

Separately, at Kurunchankulama troops confronted with a group of LTTE infiltrators around 12.45 last afternoon (November 19). Ground sources confirmed that two terrorists were killed and few others injured in this incident. Also, one soldier was killed when the terrorists fired mortars at the FDL.

In the general area Thampanai, troops ambushed a tractor carrying LTTE cadres 4.30, last evening (November 19). Ground sources confirmed that at least five terrorists were killed and many others were injured in the incident.

Elsewhere in the same front, troops engaged heavy artillery at an enemy location around 12.10.p.m yesterday (November 19). LTTE radio transmission has revealed that two terrorists were killed in the Umayaraturarankulam area due to the artillery fire.

At Periyipanchankulama, a soldier sustained injuries in an anti personnel (AP) mine explosion on the same day morning (November 19). The injured was immediately transferred to the field hospital in Vavuniya. Further, troops conducting mine clearing operation in the Vavuniya front removed 215 anti personnel mines laid by the LTTE terrorists in Periyapunchankulam and Ampaddailuppaikulam areas yesterday (November 19).

Mannar

Meanwhile in the Mannar front, navy sailors recovered a large consignment of war like materials destined to LTTE from Kondachchikuda and Pallemunai area yesterday and Sunday (November 18).

At Kattupalliya in Pallimunai Naval troops on a foot patrol apprehended 170 of aluminum plates hidden in a scrub jungle in the Katupalliya area in Pallemunai, Mannar today (20th November) around 3.30 a.m. According to the naval sources, the apprehended items comprised of 120 plates of the 1.2 mm gauge, which were 4 feet long and 1.4 feet wide each and 50 plates of the 4 mm gauge, which were 4 feet in length and 2.8 feet in width.

Separately, naval troops recovered approximately 15 - 20 Kg of C - 4 explosive contained in a sealed fibre box with connecting cord in general area Kondachchikuda on Sunday evening.

On Monday (November 19) sailors recovered one shot gun, 06 ammunition and 150 iron balls used for claymore mines in Kalpitiya area.
