Elections Commissioner Dayanada Dissanayake, a short while ago, declared incumbent President Mahinda Rajapakse as the elected president of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, as per the results of the just concluded presidential elections.
The Elections Commissioner said that he tried his level best to ensure the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner but said that it had been largely out of his control to manage, especially in areas like Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Matale. (RR)

Dear Mr. Commissioner, please visit a developed country and see what a 'free and fair election' really is!

How could you declare anyone 'elected,' when you say that it was largely out of your control to manage?

I thought you had already 'resigned'?

The Election was largely out of the Commissioner's control ? Surely, if there were sections, which the Commissioner had no control over, then he should declare a re-poll! What is the point of an Elections Commissioner, if he is merely a 'figure head,' with no control ?
