Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi plan to wed

Los Angeles Ellen DeGeneres, the TV talk show host, is putting a California Supreme Court ruling in favour of gay marriage into action. She and her actress girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, plan to marry, DeGeneres has announced.

She was recording an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the day the state’s high court overturned California’s laws against gay marriage.

She said that she and de Rossi would be getting married. De Rossi, 35, who was in the studio, and DeGeneres, 50, were applauded by audience members.

The court ruling means that same-sex couples could tie the knot in as little as a month. However, religious and social conservatives are seeking to put a constitutional amendment on a ballot in November that would undo the Supreme Court ruling and ban gay marriage.

DeGeneres and the glamorous de Rossi have been a familiar couple at Hollywood events, including the Academy Awards.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Have a Joint Birthday Bash

Proving that all the time they spend together as a married couple hasn't made them enjoy each other's company any less, Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi opted to throw a joint birthday party together. We weren't invited, but we'd bet money on the fact that Ellen did a whole lot of dancing...and that Portia did a whole lot of standing there looking hot.

The party went down on Saturday at Ellen and Portia's home. Ellen was celebrating having turned 51 on January 26th while Portia's 36th birthday was on the 31st. Wow, nobody ever takes time to talk about how Ellen really robbed the cradle. Way to go locking that one down, Ellen.

The party started at 8 (because Ellen is getting a little older, and older people start their parties a little earlier) where according to People, guests hung in the background and were treated to tunes spun by Samantha Ronson. Ronson of course brought along Lindsay Lohan to chain-smoke and glower by her side. We can only hope that in the midst of all the festivities, Ellen and Portia took the time to offer Lindsay and Sam advice on how to be a lesbian couple that doesn't freak everybody out by constantly trashing hotel rooms and screaming at each other in public. There's nothing like having a couple of lesbian gurus to really set a young couple on the straight and narrow...and by that we mean, the gay and narrow.

A guest that attended the party told People, "This is their first big party together as a married couple. [Ellen] and Portia seem very excited to have all their friends here." Amongst those in attendance were, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette, David Arquette, Drew Barrymore, Ben Stiller, his wife Christine Taylor and Sacha Baron Cohen.

You'll note that Jennifer Aniston made the wise decision of leaving boyfriend John Mayer at home, probably because she was concerned that he'd get up and sing another one of her love poems and ruin the party for everyone. We think it's cool that Jennifer Aniston was thinking about others for a change.
