Well... A Mac has a unique quality... None will disagree on tht... from it's nice n tiny web cam to it's look like one mouse button.. (until a few hours, i thought it has only one button... ;)) and even to it's lovely keypad... Yeah, macs run the same windows pcs ds as now they are sort of a lovely branded pcs ne... MAC os also cool... everything.. but nt for us.. we depend on the s/ws tht we get from torrents n so on so... not much gifts for apple buddies i guess.. + all the s/w we are to use at uni are windows baed ones.. so I do not need to pay extra $$$ if i need to use win on top of it ne.. neda? ;)

I agree with you when you say that you don't need to pay extra bucks if you want to use windows on a mac. That's what PCs are for.

The unique quality (or seduction) a Mac has comes from it's cult status. When everybody says something is hip and cool. You also think so. It's an effect of mass hallucination.
I don't say a Mac is bad. It gives a kind of computer you can depend on, software which you can install and forget. The apple engineers care about their product and reputation. But still a product shouldn't ride on a cult status.
IMO a Mac is just a user friendly Linux PC which is already configured to the button and what you just do is forget configuring and maintenance and focus on getting your work done with it.

Also Mr. Jobs bashes Microsoft shamelessly :P

Quite a good marketing technique in this world where people are fed up with microsoft. You can get a good laugh from the deeds of mac marketing people including Jobs himself.

There is another anti microsoft cult out there, the opensource cult (linux GNU and all the rest of it) Which is gaining much more support than the mac cult.

Geeks and IT Pros go for the linux cult and artists and hipsters go for the mac cult. The cult image is something bad since the whole thing might fall in an instant. It's not like a reputation built step by step throughout years.

I don't bash macs or their cults. But they are quite shameless in enforcing their rights. They included sha hashes in latest ipods so that only itunes can access the ipod song database. Now you can't use the ipod with other programs.
Sure it's cracked, but the procedure is too complex for an average computer user. :(
