Edward Speleers was selected for the title role after a worldwide casting search. "Ed came in [to the casting session], and we just looked at each other and said, "That’s Eragon, that’s the guy from the book," said director Stefen Fangmeier: “I got a strong sense of Ed’s sparkle, of his life. It’s the kind of thing where you just know he’s destined to become a movie star. This movie was released on June 25 2006. Speleers won the role as he was trying to learn his lines for a school production of Hamlet. Others considered for the role included Alex Pettyfer but since production took place in the Czech Republic and Pettyfer is afraid of flying, he declined the role.[3] Pettyfer would later go onto play Alex Rider in Stormbreaker.
On July 15, 2005, in an official press release from 20th Century Fox, it was confirmed that Speleers had signed on to the project. Over the following months, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Chris Egan and Djimon Hounsou were all confirmed as joining the Eragon cast. Paolini, author of the original novel, had expressed his wishes to be featured in a cameo role in the film - specifically, as a warrior who is beheaded in the battle of Farthen Dûr. However, he was unable due to his European book tour.

Does it matter!

People who read the book will know how stupid the movie is....Really disappointed how the movie is done...the director had tried to copy the styles in LOTR and had failed hopelessly. Only good thing is the dragon's animations in it..... :( :(

    So true ...

One of the worst movies I've seen in 2007..what a piece of shit this movie was...

This was directed by a new guy (infact Eragon was his first major movie)... I read Eragon some years back..and when I heard that a movie was going to be made & later found out that it's gonna be done by a newcomer I was a bit skeptical.. but didnt expect anything this bad...

The faults are numerous compared to the book....

Eragon's journey with Bron (Trainer/Mentor) is like 10 seconds long so u dont give a damn whether he dies or not...Arya is supposed to be an Elf but the idiot of a director forgets to give her pointy ears :) .so what made her an Elf I dont have the faintest idea.., Eragon has a baby dragon, he throws the baby dragon in the air, it comes back down a fully grown dragon..GOD!!!, I could go on

It was like they had copied and pasted some pages of the book into a script, put them in a jumble, threw everything out of sequence & cut out any part that looked too expensive...

THE WORST BOOK TO MOVIE TRANSFORMATION EVER MADE !!!
