I was diagnosed with this disease in the middle of May. Now, I am fully recovered.

You have to reduce your weight if you are obese. I was 75 kg when I started. Now, I'm 66 kg. (Still, the doctor advised me to further reduce to 62-63 kg and maintain a BMI of 23.)
I reduced my sugar intake. I got used to drinking coffee without sugar. I avoided soft drinks and powdered milk. Also, every day after dinner, I had green tea. If any cravings kicked in, I consumed dates and fruits as an alternative.
I reduced the carb portion in my food. (If eating rice, I limited it to 1/4 amount.) I cut down all fast food items. I tried to stick to rice most of the time because the carb intake is manageable and can be easily balanced with other vegetables and curries.
I 'fast walked' on the treadmill every day for 30 minutes. (There may be few days I may have missed, but generally speaking, I got it done.)
I started fasting for 16 hours(this was started later in the process, about 1-2 months after the diagnose). I only consumed 2 main meals and a snack in between (better if you can avoid snacking). I'm hoping to continue this fasting routine in the future also.
I reduced my alcohol intake.
If you are smoking, try to quit until you recover.
This is mainly a struggle with your mind. You can do this. Best of luck!
