France welcomes the official announcement by the United Nations Secretary-General of the establishment of a panel of experts tasked with investigating the allegations of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law committed in Sri Lanka.
As soon as the conflict ended, Sri Lanka pledged to investigate these allegations and to shed full light on these possible acts of violence.
Concurrently with the work of the "Commission on lessons learned from the war and reconciliation” set up by the Colombo authorities, France is encouraging that country to work closely with this panel of experts so that the war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law do not remain unpunished and in order to allow all Sri Lankans finally to enjoy lasting peace.
