Florida’s Nathan Dornacher claims that the Galaxy Note 7 caught fire in his Jeep Grand Cherokee, spreading to set the car ablaze before totaling the vehicle entirely.
According to Fox13, Dornacher plugged the Galaxy Note 7 into the center console of his car, where he left the device as he helped to remove a piece of furniture from the trunk. In that span of time, the Galaxy Note 7, which has been recalled in markets around the globe because of battery explosion concerns, went up in flames.
Samsung and U.S. carriers have urged consumers to return their devices immediately. All major U.S. carriers have swap-out initiatives in place so that customers aren’t left without a smartphone. Samsung is expected to begin selling replacement units in the U.S. in the near future, though hasn’t said when new Galaxy Note 7 devices with safer batteries will be available.
