At least you can't in the base game & hearts of stone in the first playthrough. Do not know what'll happen in NG+ or Blood & Wine.Yes upgrading means finding diagrams and upgrading armour and weaponary through blacksmiths and armourers. If you haven't done that it maybe the reason why you are feeling like the viper set as over powered.I have found all the diagrams in the game. Every single bomb, decoction, potion, armour & sword upgrade diagrams there is <img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/D.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D" data-shortname=":D" />I basically do not have any hidden locations or quests or any thing of the sort except for some 40ish smugglers caches in the sea of Skellige (which is bloody time wasting and boring) and two broken quests which cannot be completed.Other than that, have done everything there is <img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/D.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D" data-shortname=":D" />Finding the last superior bomb & potion diagrams is the hardest thing to do because some of them appear randomly and in different places in different playthroughs. So even a wiki or a forum can't help much.But found all anyhow and upgraded to the maximum.This is what I love about RPGs than other types of games.Decision making, upgrading, different scenarios, the lore... those things make a game much enjoyable to play.That's why my favourite franchises are The Witcher & Dark Souls <img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/love.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":love:" title="Love    :love:" data-shortname=":love:" /></blockquote>
