A group of masked persons broke into the office of a local Janatha Vimukthi Perumana (JVP) politician at Piliyandala and smashed up furniture and other material before escaping earlier today, police said.
They said one person who was inside the office was also assaulted and is currently undergoing treatment at the Colombo South General Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.
They said the office belonged to Mr. Lakshman Nupunaraachchi, belonging to the old guard of the Party.
The Piliyandala police are conducting further investigations.
