A supporter of General (retd) Sarath Fonseka was abducted and assaulted and dumped on the road side in Matara, police said.
The victim Sahandeniyage Sarath, 32 had been taken away in a red cab by eight persons to a Provincial Council member's office and badly assaulted. He has been admitted to the Matara Hospital.
In a separate incident a large cutout of Gen Fonseka was set on fire in Nupe, Matara, by UPFA supporters.
A complaint has been lodged in the police by the person who had put up the cutout. He claims that the cutout had cost Rs. 50,000.
